Application Process

We have streamlined the study abroad application process into clear, manageable steps. Our team guides you through each stage to maximize your chances of admission.

1

Free Profile Evaluation

We assess your +2 grades, extracurricular activities, and career goals to determine your GKS competitiveness. We give you an honest assessment of your chances and recommend the Embassy or University track.

2

Application Document Preparation

We help you prepare all 15+ required documents: personal statement, study plan, recommendation letters (2), academic transcripts, citizenship certificate, passport, health certificate, and more. Every document must be precisely formatted.

For Embassy-recommended applicants, we prepare you for the written exams (math, English, and interview). We conduct mock interviews covering common questions about Korea, your study goals, and your motivation.

5

Student Life

Studying abroad is about more than just academics. Here is what you can expect from life as an international student.

Life as a GKS undergraduate scholar in Korea is extraordinary. Your first year is spent at a designated Korean language institute, where you study Korean intensively for 4-5 hours daily with fellow GKS scholars from around the world. By the end of this year, most students reach TOPIK Level 3-4, which is sufficient for Korean-taught university classes.

After the language year, you enter your chosen university and department. Korean university culture includes vibrant MT (membership training) trips, departmental festivals, club activities, and a strong sunbae-hubae (senior-junior) mentoring system. GKS scholars are well-respected on campus and often serve as cultural ambassadors.

Part-time work is allowed after your first semester (with TOPIK Level 3+). Common jobs pay ₩9,860-12,000/hour and include convenience stores, restaurants, English tutoring, and translation work. Many GKS scholars also receive additional research assistant positions from their departments.

GKS/KGSP Undergraduate Program — Frequently Asked Questions

How many GKS Undergraduate slots does Nepal get?
Nepal typically receives 10-15 GKS Undergraduate scholarship slots per year through the Embassy recommendation route. Additional slots are available through the University recommendation route (where Korean universities directly nominate candidates). Competition is real but achievable — strong +2 grades (above 80%), a compelling study plan, and good interview performance give you a strong chance.
Do I need to know Korean before applying?
No. The GKS Undergraduate program includes a full year of intensive Korean language training at a designated language institute in Korea. You will learn Korean from scratch after arriving. However, having even basic Korean knowledge (Hangul reading, basic greetings) can strengthen your application and show commitment.
What happens during the 1-year Korean language training?
You are placed at a Korean language institute (usually at a university like Kyung Hee, Seoul National, or a regional university). Classes run 4-5 hours daily, Monday-Friday, for one full year. You learn reading, writing, speaking, and listening. By the end, you should reach TOPIK Level 3-4. Your ₩900,000 monthly allowance continues during this period.
Can I choose my university and major?
Yes. You list your preferred universities and major on the application form. For the Embassy track, NIIED (the Korean scholarship agency) matches you based on your preferences, exam scores, and university availability. For the University track, you apply directly to your chosen university. Most GKS scholars get one of their top 3 choices.
What is the difference between Embassy and University track?
Embassy track: You apply through the Korean Embassy in Kathmandu. There are written exams and an interview. It is more competitive but open to all eligible Nepali students. University track: You apply directly to a Korean university that has GKS allocation. The university nominates you to NIIED. No Embassy exam, but you need to convince the university to nominate you. We recommend applying through both tracks simultaneously to maximize your chances.
