Exchange Programs

Spend a semester in Korea through your Nepali university

Exchange programs offer Nepali university students the opportunity to spend one or two semesters at a Korean partner university without transferring or starting a new degree. You remain enrolled at your home university in Nepal, take courses in Korea that transfer back to your degree, and experience Korean university life firsthand. Exchange programs are an excellent low-risk way to experience studying in Korea, build Korean language skills, and decide if you want to pursue a full degree in Korea later. Several Nepali universities have active exchange agreements with Korean universities.

Application Process

We have streamlined the study abroad application process into clear, manageable steps. Our team guides you through each stage to maximize your chances of admission.

1

Exchange Eligibility Check

We verify whether your Nepali university has active exchange agreements with Korean universities. If so, we identify the best Korean partner university for your academic field and goals.

2

Home University Coordination

We help you work with your university's international office to initiate the exchange application. This includes obtaining nomination, preparing required documents, and ensuring credit transfer agreements are in place.

3

Korean University Application

We prepare your exchange application for the Korean host university, including transcripts, language certificates, motivation letter, and course selection plan. Most Korean universities have separate application portals for exchange students.

4

Course Selection & Credit Mapping

We help you select courses at the Korean university that will transfer back to your Nepali degree. We coordinate with both universities to ensure credit equivalency is approved before you travel.

5

D-2 Visa & Logistics

After admission, we guide you through the D-2 exchange student visa process, dormitory application, health insurance, and travel arrangements.

6

On-Campus Support

We connect you with the international student office at your Korean university, Nepali student communities, and resources to help you settle in quickly and make the most of your semester.

Costs & Scholarships

Understanding the financial commitment is crucial for planning your study abroad journey. Here is a breakdown of typical costs and available funding options.

Tuition Range
₩0-4,000,000/semester

Many exchange agreements include tuition waivers — you continue paying tuition to your Nepali university and pay zero tuition to the Korean host university. Some programs charge a reduced fee of ₩1,000,000-4,000,000 per semester. Check your specific university's exchange agreement for details.

Scholarships
Tuition waiver + some stipends available

Many exchange programs include automatic tuition waivers at the Korean university. Some Korean universities offer exchange student scholarships covering dormitory fees. The Korean government's GKS also has a short-term exchange category. External scholarships from KOICA and KFAS may also be available for Nepali exchange students.

Costs are estimates and vary by university and city. Call +977-9849998031 or fill out the form for personalized cost estimates based on your preferred universities.

Student Life

Studying abroad is about more than just academics. Here is what you can expect from life as an international student.

Exchange students get the full Korean university experience packed into one or two semesters. Korean universities assign exchange students a Korean buddy or mentor who helps you navigate campus, introduces you to student organizations, and practices language exchange with you.

Exchange students can join any university club or circle, participate in MT trips, attend campus festivals, and use all university facilities including gyms, libraries, and cultural centers. Many exchange students say their semester in Korea was the highlight of their university years.

The exchange experience is also an excellent trial run. If you love Korea, you can return for a full degree program with Korean language skills and university connections already established. Many of our GKS and self-funded students started as exchange students who fell in love with Korea during a single semester.

Exchange Programs — Frequently Asked Questions

Does my Nepali university need to have a Korean partner?
Yes, formal exchange programs require an institutional agreement between your Nepali university and a Korean university. Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, and Pokhara University have some Korean partnerships. If your university does not have a Korean partner, we can explore other options like summer programs, independent study abroad, or direct enrollment.
Will my Korean credits transfer back to Nepal?
This depends on your home university's credit transfer policy and the specific courses you take in Korea. We work with both universities before your exchange to ensure credit equivalency is agreed upon. Most universities accept 12-18 credits per semester from recognized partner institutions.
How long is a typical exchange in Korea?
Most exchanges are one semester (approximately 4 months, March-June or September-December). Some programs allow two semesters (full academic year). Korean university semesters run March-June (Spring) and September-December (Fall). We recommend a full academic year if possible for maximum Korean language improvement and cultural immersion.
Can I work during my exchange semester?
Exchange students on D-2 visas have the same part-time work rights as regular international students. After your first semester (or immediately if you have TOPIK 3+), you can work up to 20 hours per week. This helps offset living costs and provides Korean workplace experience.
Is an exchange program worth it if I want to do GKS later?
Absolutely. An exchange semester gives you real Korean experience, language skills, and potentially a TOPIK score — all of which strengthen your GKS application significantly. Applicants who have lived in Korea and can demonstrate genuine understanding of Korean culture and education have a clear advantage in GKS interviews and personal statements.
