TOPIK Preparation Guide: From Zero to Level 4

Why TOPIK Matters

TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) is the gateway to Korean university admission, scholarships, and employment. For Nepali students planning to study in Korea, your TOPIK level directly impacts your opportunities:

• TOPIK 3: Minimum for most Korean-taught university programs
• TOPIK 4: Required by top universities (SNU, Yonsei, Korea University). Unlocks 50% tuition scholarships at many universities.
• TOPIK 5: Opens 70% tuition scholarships and improves GKS application competitiveness
• TOPIK 6: Maximum level. Can provide 100% tuition scholarship at some universities.

TOPIK Structure

TOPIK has two levels: TOPIK I (Levels 1-2) and TOPIK II (Levels 3-6). TOPIK I tests listening and reading. TOPIK II tests listening, reading, and writing.

Study Timeline: Zero to TOPIK 4

Months 1-3: Learn Hangul (Korean alphabet), basic grammar, and 500 essential vocabulary words. Use "Korean Made Simple" or TTMIK (Talk To Me In Korean) for structured learning.

Months 4-6: Intermediate grammar, 1,500 vocabulary. Start watching Korean content with Korean subtitles. Practice TOPIK I sample tests. Target: Pass TOPIK I (Level 2).

Months 7-9: Advanced grammar patterns, 3,000 vocabulary. Begin TOPIK II writing practice. Read Korean news articles daily. Target: Approach TOPIK II Level 3.

Months 10-12: Intensive TOPIK II preparation. Complete all available past papers. Focus on your weakest section. Target: TOPIK Level 4.

TOPIK Exam Schedule in Nepal

TOPIK is held in Nepal approximately 2 times per year (usually April and October) at designated test centers in Kathmandu. In Korea, TOPIK is held 6 times per year.
